HY-LOAD Bearings are ideal for low speed, high load
applications in corrosive environments and their split construction permits
circumferential rather than expansion.

Fluorocarbon Plastics
(TFE)
By utilizing a patented process to manufacture HY-LOAD Bearings,
Northland Engineered Products, Inc. mechanically inserts plastic liners, typically PTFE,
into perforated metal backings. The final parts are then formed and finished without
adhesives which can be attacked by solvents. Eliminating most of the "creep"
inherent in all plastics, these metal backings also minimize the effect of thermal
expansion present in all bearing applications. Heat transfers quickly to the backing and
then to the housing.
We have developed this graph and formula to help you design with HY-LOAD
Bearings, even though each application should be prototype tested. The best liner for
applications requiring high wear resistance, stability and lubricity is a graphite and
fiberglass filled PTFE and we offer a proprietary blend of these fillers as our standard
product line but can provide virgin PTFE and other fillers on special order For nuclear
applications we suggest using ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW). Other
specialty liners are also available.

Size and Materials
The following illustration and tables will help you identify, specify and order the
bearing that is most appropriate for your application. The standard metal backing for
HY-LOAD Bearings is 316 Stainless steel and the standard liner is filled TEE. As you can
see in the product code chart, you can select from several different liners and metal
backings. For the best performance, we recommend that the finish of shafts rotating within
HY-LOAD Bearings be 16-20 RMS.
