PTFE
Diaphragms
Custom thermoformed
in many styles,
shapes and sizes

diaphragms2.jpgPTFE Fluorocarbon Plastic diaphragms can be custom thermoformed in flat, convex or concave, and corrugated shapes, with or without threaded inserts, in sizes up to 12" diameter. They can be fabricated with elastomer backings for increased elasticity, with fabric backings for extra strength, or a combination of both, depending upon your specific requirements.

Key Features

Unaffected by acids, alkalis, and other corrosive media
Ideal for use in instruments and equipment requiring barrier protection where contamination cannot be tolerated
Capable of operating in pumps for up to 100 million cycles, depending upon application
Special elastomer backings provide enhanced flexibility for stroke lengths up to 15% of the diaphragm diameter
Diaphragms can be developed to withstand pressures up to 1000 psi over a -40°F to +350°F range
Shapes include flat, convex or concave, and corrugated

PTFE Characteristics

Zero Moisture Absorption: <0.01 over 24 hrs.
Low Coefficient of Friction: .05-.08 static against polished steel
Chemically Inert and Corrosion-Resistant: Excellent resistance to all chemicals except fluorine, which is considered good
High Service Temperature: 240°C Maximum continuous, 320° to 340°C melting point

Sizes
Diameters from 3/4" to 12"
Thicknesses from .010" up to .125"

Shapes

Flat
The flat diaphragm is a simple design. Where sealing is critical, a raised rim around the O.D. may be required.

Corrugated
Corrugated diaphragms are used in pumping applications requiring greater linear displacement or longer linear travel.

Convex
Convex or concave diaphragms allow for a snap action and are useful where sealing or controlling a flow is desirable.

Rigid Center
The rigid center design accepts a threaded insert or facilitates a coupling, such as a linkage pin to a measuring device.

Elastomer backings can be provided for enhanced elasticity and fabric or combination elastomer and fabric backings can handle high pressures.
Fabric reinforced EPDM, Fluorocarbon, Buna-N, or Silicone Rubber Providing greater flexibility than plain TFE diaphragms, an elastomer backing extends their stroke length up to 15% of the overall diameter. Elastomer backed diaphragms are ideal for metering applications where it is necessary to return to a zero position. Recovery is provided by the elastomer which is protected from the corrosive materials by the PTFE barrier. Adding a fabric backing permits operation in high pressure environments up to 1000 psi, depending upon the type of backing, size and application.
